Latter-day fans of suave British stage and recording star Michael Crawford
(of Phantom of the Opera fame) may be surprised to discover that he once
enjoyed enormous popularity as a situation-comedy buffoon. Debuting
February 15, 1973, Some Mothers Do Have 'Em! cast Crawford as
the spectacularly clumsy Frank Spencer, who, when not breaking
everything he touched, was being sacked from job after job,
causing all sorts of disaster for those nearest and dearest
to him. Through it all, however, Frank's wife Betty
(Michele Dotrice) remained devoted to her
stumblebum hubby.
